Why I've made the choice to join the US Navy as a future naval flight officer? It's all because of my dream to be truly up there, with the best of the best. Despite being from a middle class family in the Philippines. And it's also because of the absence of fighter jets in our navy (they are in the air force).
Tom Cruise's 1986 film Top Gun and the visit of the USN aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson last May 16, 2011 (the 25th anniversary of the film's US release) catapulted me into the world of US naval aviation. Despite being a dangerous job its rewards are being honored for serving that country, better pay and decorations.
It's those which prepare me for that destiny. And soon, it shall truly begin.
